A choice today, a path tomorrow. Mobius Communications is a nearly century old locally-owned technology company providing high-quality telecommunications services in the Nebraska Panhandle. It's also where Breana Specht decided to pursue a marketing internship. This internship, like many others, acted as a stepping stone for Breana: it introduced her to the working world helping her gain valuable hands-on experience. Breana benefitted from understanding how her major will be translated to the workforce. Through this internship experience, Breana was introduced to marketing procedures and assisted in their operations at Mobius Communications. From campaign planning down to creation and management of social media content, Breana experimented and applied her knowledge from class into actionable strategies. She helped plan two separate campaigns for the company, one for Christmas and another for fundraising. Breana also created and designed company collateral in the form of T-shirts, postcards, and a newsletter. Pursuing an internship helped Breana solidify her interest in pursuing a degree in marketing. She’ll be continuing her studies in the University of South Dakota with a major in marketing and a minor in graphic design. We’re excited for Breana’s future and how she will continue to grow. Here’s Breana she had to say about her experience "This internship at Mobius Communications has prepared me both for college and for life after college. The internship helped me decide if a major in Marketing is right for me, which I now know, for sure, that it is. It has also helped me grow a basic understanding of how I can use my major in the real world and what I want to do right after graduating college.” We're excited to see today's youth making significant impacts at work and in their personal lives, even if it starts with a small role. The Misconceptions of Internships: A Winning Mindset to Set You Apart Purannan Balakrishnan, a product intern at FNBO this summer, shares his insights on common misconceptions about internships. As a first-year student at Columbia University with two prior internships, he is well-versed in the internship landscape. Reflecting on his experiences, Purannan emphasized the value of in-person internships over digital ones. He believes in-person opportunities allow interns to immerse themselves fully in corporate life, experience company culture, and engage in real-life scenarios, which he views as the best learning method. At FNBO, he has participated in various meetings, witnessing how professionals navigate complex sales processes and conversations. Addressing misconceptions, Purannan noted that many students hesitate to apply for roles because they need more skills. He encourages students to shift their mindset from "do I have these skills?" to "how quickly can I learn and adapt?" This proactive attitude, he believes, is crucial for any intern's growth. In his final message, Purannan urged interns and students to seize opportunities and think long-term. He advised that when deciding whether to take an opportunity, consider if your future self, two to three years down the line, would be grateful for the chance you took today. We're excited to see today's youth making significant impacts at work and in their personal lives, even if it starts with a small role. Sign up for an internship today on Symplicity .

Big impact at work, bigger impact in life. Learning a trade and expanding personal horizons. This summer, Jacob started his first internship experience at Hayes & Associates, LLC , a full-service CPA firm based out of Omaha, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa. Throughout this internship experience, he’s had the opportunity to work for real clients like preparing, managing, and producing tax documentations for clients of various sizes from individuals to organizations. This internship provided a real life experience for Jacob to turn in-class theory into practice, helping him to solidify his interest in the accounting field and pursue the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Certification after his graduation. Jacob stepped into the doors of Hayes and Associates and immediately made an impact with his desire to learn and to be a team player at the company. Don’t take our word for it; here’s what Hayes and Associates had to say about Jacob: "When Jacob joined the Hayes & Associates Team, he hit the ground running. He was able to come right in and make an immediate impact in helping the Tax & Accounting Team with a variety of projects. Jacob has a fantastic attitude and great communication skills. His enthusiasm for accounting and service made him perfect fit for our team. Jacob's strong attention to detail and tireless work ethic has helped ensure that client expectations are being met and exceeded." Outside of his corporate role, the internship has also helped Jacob with a change in his perspective. Jacob saw himself as someone that was more interested in pursuing a career in corporate America. However, through his experience of working closely with different partnerships, corporations, and nonprofits, his goals have since changed. Jacob's internship changed his perspective on handling his own taxes, owning a business, and how there's a wide variety of career paths not yet known to him. We're excited to see today's youth making significant impacts at work and in their personal lives, even if it starts with a small role. Sign up for an internship today on Symplicity .

From intern to mentor, small roles can lead to big impacts. Boyd Jones Construction is a nearly century old construction company that creates buildings to represent organizations, their staff, and their community. In 2022, Max began as intern with little to no background in the construction industry. Over his past 2 years at Boyd Jones, he’s grown as a professional and has since played a role in several constructions from beginning to end. Not only that, this spring he’s taken on a larger role within an elementary project where he’s in charge of completing submittals and RFIs while working with subcontractors in the field to manage tight schedules. Max also acts as a mentor for new interns within the company to help them make the most of their opportunity. Here’s what Boyd Jones had to say regarding Max's contribution: Max has been an intern with Boyd Jones since 2022 and has made the most of his internship experience. He has taken advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow during his time with us. He has not only shown dedication and commitment to his work but also a willingness to share his intern experience with our next generation of interns. He has mentored and advised them on how to make the most of their internship opportunities with us. Max is a great example of what an outstanding intern can achieve. “Max is a great example of what an outstanding intern can achieve.” - Boyd Jones Construction Here’s what Max had to say about his experience: Boyd Jones has helped me develop my knowledge in the construction industry more than I could have ever learned in the classroom. In addition to knowledge of the industry, I have developed my professional skills of communication, leadership, time management, problem solving, adaptability, and critical thinking by receiving on the job experience and being surrounded by phenomenal people who treat me as an integral part of the team and help me grow every day.

Small Roles, Big Impact. An impact where it matters all starts with something small. Meet Brayden Hicks, who is currently an Economic Development Intern at The Greater Omaha Chamber . The Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce is an organization that advocates for and supports existing and future businesses in Omaha in service of the advancement of the city. Although his role is small, his impact is not; he is one of many individuals helping to shape Nebraska's future. At his work, he often collaborates and learns from business and community leaders who are also invested in the future of Nebraska, providing him with invaluable learning experiences and highlighting his potential impact as an intern. Here's what Brayden had to say about his experience: "During my tenure at The Greater Omaha Chamber, I have gained profound insights and invaluable experiences. I have had the privilege of collaborating with exceptional individuals who share a common vision for the advancement of Omaha. Through fostering meaningful connections and actively contributing to the enhancement of Omaha's business and social landscape, I have cultivated a wealth of firsthand knowledge in driving positive growth within the community." Brayden is a prime example of the value that internships provide to young adults entering the workforce. Young people impact not only in the organizations they work for but also the community and customers their businesses serve.
